The Brecon

Built in 1914 and known then as the Waldhaus — a place where, through the 1950s and '60s, high-profilers gathered to be seen — The Brecon has been reimagined by Amsterdam-based studio Nicemakers into something quieter and more considered. Eighteen rooms and four suites dressed in timber, stone, leather, and wool; midcentury furniture; artisan-crafted details; and mountain views that do most of the work. One Michelin Key, adults only, and the kind of place that earns both distinctions without making a fuss about either.
Everything is included — breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner, drinks, a well-stocked minibar, Aesop amenities — so the only decision left is what to do with the Alps outside. The guest-only spa has a sauna, steam room, outdoor pool, and a near-monastic relaxation room with an open fire. Beyond the doors: ski pistes, hiking trails, mountain lakes, local wood-carvers, and excellent cheese.
