The hotel sits on a historic townhouse in ruins and was renovated into 7 studio apartments and a pool in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, offering a discrete, slow travel style retreat for independent travelers versus the island's massive holiday resorts. The 16th-century colossal walls and archway that were revealed in the backyard, belonged to San Nicolás de Bari, once the 1st Hospital in the Americas (from 1503, World Heritage UNESCO site).

Conceived with a low occupancy approach, guests will enjoy the simple beauty of a peaceful garden and take a dip in a crystalline-clean pool sitting below an original 1500’s archway, which was found in a state of ruin.

Each loft apartment is equipped with a kitchen and ensuite bathroom. Some have private balconies to the different sundecks, while other large windows looking to a quiet and tranquil cactus-filled courtyard. Finishings are raw and natural, featuring creamy limed washed walls, exposed cement floors, coral stone, and original wooden lintels. For a modern touch, film photography is featured on large format bed headboards and lightboxes throughout the lofts.

Local craftsmen are responsible for the wonderful rattan chairs, cacti pots cast and handmade concrete tiling, adorning the patio with such charm. Mahogany wood from the roof was used to make Caribbean style main doors. Every detail and corner of this wonderful building keeps an old memory, an ancient story full of culture and tradition.

Located in the city’s historic district, local creators are occasionally invited to run workshops. The whole villa is available for special events and gatherings.
