Good food shared with loved ones — Amsterdam restaurant guide

After spending a great part of the lockdown in New York, my husband and I travelled to Amsterdam for much needed time with family and old friends. What awaited us was an electric city, still warm with the last rays of summer, buzzing with restaurants, terraces and winebars.

Gertrude

One my favorites— a warm, cozy neighborhood joint. The dishes are light and beautiful.. their lavender butter is magic and the warm madeleines are perfect. For date night or small groups, its quite busy, I recommend reserving ahead.

Binnenvisser

Serving a large selection of natural wines paired with vegetarian and seafood dishes. Intimate, candle lit.

I’m not a wino but my friends who know about wine say it has the best selection in the city, paired with inventive dishes— a must go.

Café Caron

Whenever we’re in the Pijp we stop here for a drink or a bite. Great energy, fun date night spot, we love to sit at the bar.

Bar Centraal / Glouglou

Whether you’re in the Pijp or West.. these natural wine bars (from the same owner) are the best. Their staff is cool and knowledgeable and the vibe is dark and fun- great for dinner with friends.

Café de Klepel

Lovely spot in the Jordaan. With an extensive wine list, flavorful menu and a cozy yet electric atmosphere.

Nnea

Stands for new Neapolis - Metropolis of a new pizza era. Fantastic for take out, authentically and conveniently folded into quarters.

Branie

- (Brani, B[A BAKJE]RÁNI, is a Malaysian word that means cheeky daredevil) it’s small and unassuming yet it’s a fantastic spot for cocktails and late night bites in West. Their ‘KFC’ mushroom bucket and Jackfruit Semoor are a vegetarian’s dream.
