Mahalia Robe is crafted in beautiful hand-woven silk. It has a channel for the belt, vintage style flutter sleeves that fasten with handmade buttons, and hand-crafted tassels with glass beads. So many intricate details make the Mahalia Robe very special! It is worn in three different ways; open, tied at the front, or as a wrap with a little hole on the left hand side.
About the Designer
SUPERNATURAE is a love story of travel, artisanal textiles and craft production, founded by Benedicte Lux. It began as a research project in Morocco and has travelled through London and New York before taking its current incarnation, a project centered around artisanal anthropology.
Supernaturae partners with one of the oldest textile NGOs in West Bengal and produces entirely in small villages where craft work is often the only local source of income. We develop on the ground, using locally available materials and traditional craft techniques with our artisans.
Each season we design loungewear for a traveling muse. We use the softest (and best!) quality materials to design with a global wanderer in mind. We use handwoven organic cotton, handwoven silks, and kantha stitch as embroidery.
We are proud to say we have fair trade certification through our producers, who are founding members of the World Fair Trade Organization.
The channel means it has an easy fit, however we would avoid choosing a size up if you want to wear it as a wrap, and wear it with a slip dress underneath. The fabric is woven on old looms in rural West Bengal, supporting craft communities in rural areas. Fair trade certified and supporting women’s development groups, our supply chain has been created to create rural employment opportunities while showcasing the best of artisanal craft.
