Mèlisses

I returned a few days ago from a trip to Greece, and I think I have Mal d'Andros (a longing to return to Andros). Just like Mal d'Africa, I feel a pleasurable nostalgia for the time I've spent on this beautiful Greek island.

Andros is part of the Cyclades archipelago and is certainly one of the most authentic and true islands as well as the closest to the mainland, reachable within only an hour by fast boat from Rafina, the port from which most connections depart.

Mèlisses is a slice of heaven where you can fully experience the character of this island and its discreet charm. This beautiful b&b overlooking the sea is the dream come true of Allegra Pomilio: photographer, food & travel writer and the beating heart of Mèlisses, who decided to transform her family's Greek residence into a perfect fusion of hospitality.

Allegra, an outstanding host, welcomes her guests and invites them to feel at home, spoiling them with incredible handmade breakfasts prepared every morning with freshly picked products from the garden.

Breakfast is served in one of the most enchanting corners of Mèlisses, in the main house, in front of the large saltwater swimming pool with the Aegean Sea as a backdrop. The mise en place is a dream: antique cutlery, beautiful ceramics, and freshly baked bread!

All the furniture is perfectly cared for, mixing together design typical of the Cyclades islands and vintage objects from Italy and France.

The property consists of two double bedrooms with direct access to the large infinity pool, two suites and a cottage with a private pool. All rooms overlook the sea and Ghiaros island in the background.

At Mèlisses everything is designed for the guests' enjoyment, from comfortable French mattresses to soft sheets made in Italy (to be precise, made in Abruzzo, where Allegra was born and grew up) and organic and locally-produced bathroom products. The open plan bathroom is decorated with Andros’ typical grey stone floors, an old Greek marble sink, silver finish taps and a white concrete shower.

Walking down the steps of the property gives you direct access to the private bay. You can wake up early in the morning and dive into the cool crystal clear waters before breakfast or relax on hot summer days while reading a book under the wooden hut built in front of the sea.

Mèlisses is the result of careful architectural work, balance with nature and respect for the landscape. There are many varieties of fruit plants, local herbs and spices that enrich the property. Heading back to the main house, you can catch a glimpse of Allegra's new project: a small farm overlooking the sea.

The peace and beauty that reigns in Mèlisses is an indescribable experience.

Every year Allegra organizes exclusive retreats e workshop, together with other guest personalities, aiming to discover the island of Andros, every time under a different perspective.
